Dear Family,
Well this week was good. Things are going good for my companion and I. This week we had a baptism. It all started on Tuesday. We had gone to Kenema for a zone meeting and when we got back we went to clean and start filling the font. We went and cleaned. Man, things just get so dirty and dusty here soooo quick. Well after we cleaned it we were going to start to draw the water from the well and put it in bucket by bucket since the pump doesn’t work anymore. But, as my companion started to draw the water for his very first time in Africa about half way up the line snapped and splash. There goes our bucket.... It was funny. He was complaining that he would never try to draw water again because he must be cursed. Well, after that we had one of the young men with us and he was like.. here, let me climb down the well and try and get it.. are you crazy.. well. In the wells the put little notches on each side so that it acts as a place for your hand and foot to climb with... so he just goes down. That guy is awesome. But, no luck. The bucket is gone. So, we found a new bucket and started to draw with a new cord, (this one was an old electrical cord) no not plugged in. But it was much stronger. So we had a couple of buckets and then we could just see all the dirt that we were putting into the font with the water and how gross it would be after we fill the whole thing. So we decided that we would go home and try to receive some revelation on the situation on what to do. Well, after some prayer we decided that we needed to join with one of the other companions but that meant that we’d have to track down a district member to come preside... well, as
Saturday came around we show up very early to clean this font and fill it. As we are cleaning my brush breaks and things were just being very difficult. But we managed and we got it cleaned. Then.... the generator wasn’t working.... so we had to track down the battery from the generator at my chapel to bring it. Finally got it working. O ya... and Friday night we got a call from the other elders saying that they were taking down the tile to the font. They rushed to go check. We were still able to use it. That was also why we had to go very early so that we could stop any workers... Right before the baptism
their branch president comes out with his tools and puts them on the steps as if to start taking down tiles... man.. I let him have it. These were people for his branch. His elders, he was the one who said that everything was good to go... So he took his tools away till after the baptism. For the actual service no district member showed up. So President Roggia gave the okay to have one of the branch presidents preside... and neither of them showed up in priesthood!! So, i gave my other white shirt to my branch president and just had to manage with a wet shirt after the baptism..... Boy. Talk about a struggle to just have the actual baptismal service. And the Branch members weren’t much of a help. O to have a smooth running organization again. Haha. SLOWLY! But surely they will get somewhere...
As for the rest of the week things have been good. And we are planning for another two baptisms this Saturday. On Saturday as well we met this lady that just called us over as we were passing by and she was asking if we would invite her to church. We told her everybody was welcome and told her where the church was. We didn’t expect too much to come from it because that happens and people don’t come. They just want a friend. But she came. It was sweet. After church we went to go visit her and she just asked tons of questions and as we answered them all about our church she was just so happy and lit up to see the differences compared to the other churches she has been too. I love seeing that and being able to share the happiness of the truth to people. It is so awesome.
Well, that is all for this week.
Love you all
Love Elder Jones
